Mar del Plata is a city and a major Argentine seaside resort and port located on the coast of the Argentine Sea, southeast of the province of Buenos Aires. It is the most important tourist city in Argentina after Buenos Aires, with one of the most extensive hotel infrastructure in the country. It is located 404 km southeast of the City of Buenos Aires.

Mar del Plata is located next to other areas within the coastal tourism corridor. The city is one of the main tourist resorts and it receives during each summer season between approximately two and three million visitors, thus producing a jump in the number of inhabitants, which has been raised in extreme cases to multiply two times the stable population.
